Its environment is characterised by its great biodiversity and the excellent quality of its waters. There are two main rivers that run along the wetlands: the Bullent or Vedat in the northern part, and the Racons or Molinell, in the south. In addition, there are numerous tributaries and springs in the area known as "ullals".
It has a dune system that extends to the south of the Serpis River and it consists of wetlands and rice paddies, giving a different look to the landscape. It is worth the trip to see a large variety of waterfowl, and it is considered a natural park par excellence due to the quality of its macrophytes; aquatic plants which are often difficult to find.

Main species
Residents: Mallard, Eurasian coot, common moorhen, western swamphen, little grebe, marbled duck, black-crowned night heron, little bittern, little ringed plover, squacco heron, little egret, cattle egret, western yellow wagtail, Eurasian bittern, western marsh harrier, collared pratincole and Eurasian hoopoe.
Summer: Black-winged stilt, red-necked nightjar, whiskered tern, grey and purple herons, moustached warblers and Eurasian reed warbler.
Winter: Glossy ibis, black-headed gull, booted eagle, peregrine falcon, Audouin's gull, bluethroat, red-crested pochard, great cormorant, Eurasian penduline tit, curlew sandpiper and European stonechat.
