Sierra Calderona Natural Park

Nàquera

Description

Sierra Calderona Natural Park is on the right bank of the Palancia River.  Here you can contemplate one of the most characteristic nature reserves in our territory. Its rocky surroundings are formed by ravines and slopes that offer visitors incredible views. The Gorgo (907 m) and Garbí (601 m) peaks are also worth highlighting, as they are ideal for mountain sports.

There is a wide variety of vegetation dominated by different species of pines and cork oaks. Cartagena’s rockrose has been reintroduced into the park, a species of shrub that was thought to be extinct in the Iberian Peninsula until a specimen was located in a nearby town. Now, you have another excuse to visit this stunning landscape.

It is an ideal place for lovers of forest birds which are predominant within the park. Also noteworthy is the presence of large birds of prey nesting in the formidable limestone and silica outcrops.

In the natural park, you can see the remains of castles and fortified farmhouses, such as those found in Olocau, Serra or Segart and the village known as L'Olla dating back to the thirteenth century.
