Sierra de Espadán Natural Park

Eslida

Description

Sierra de Espadán Natural Park is the second largest park in the Region of Valencia (31,181 ha) only surpassed by Las Hoces de Cabriel Natural Park (31,446 ha). It is located in the province of Castellón within the borders of a total of 19 municipalities.

We can consider it a unique geological environment within our territory, mainly due to the Triassic outcrops of the Bundsandstein, organic sandstone sediments that reach considerable heights giving rise to an abrupt and broken landscape.

The silica nature of its rocks generates decarbonised soils, which gives rise to the best cork trees in the Region of Valencia. In addition to this interesting species, we can find others such as the: Pyrenean oak, chestnut, yew and holly.

In summary, it is one of the most interesting parks for visitors, as much for the beauty of its forests as for its geological appeal, not to mention its size.

The bird fauna in the park is predominantly forest, with species such as the northern goshawk, Eurasian sparrowhawk and Eurasian jay. Of course, the entire park invites visitors to enjoy a multitude of activities, which include hiking, cycling, climbing, birdwatching, horseback riding, etc.
